Meet Mr. Carr

I began my Woodford County Physical Education career at Northside Elementary. I spent 5  years at Northside. In 2004, I had the honor of also teaching PE at Simmons Elementary. I began teaching at WCMS in 2005, the first year 6th grade students attended middle school in Woodford County. In 2008, I began teaching the 6th grade practical living course. In addition to teaching, I serve on the Curriculum and Instruction committee, and I am the head WCMS archery coach.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Health from the University of Kentucky and a Master's degree in Education from Georgetown College. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher in the areas of early-middle childhood physical education. I am American Heart Association certified to teach CPR and first aid and I am AFTA certified personal trainer. I am currently seeking a YAFT (Youth) personal training certification.

I am active in professional groups such as the Kentucky Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. I was honored as the 2003 Northside Teacher of the Year. I was also honored as KAHPERD's Dance Educator of the Year in 2003 for my work on incorporating dance into various content areas. Some of those dance lessons are featured in the Kentucky Educational Television's Dance Arts Tool Kit. In 2006, my Iron Tiger Indoor Triathlon was published as a PECENTRAL Best Practice.

I enjoy playing golf and church league softball. I spend my free time with my wife and 3 large dogs. I also enjoy UK sports and weight lifting. I haven't missed a home UK football game since moving to Kentucky in 1995. In 2007, I set a new Kentucky Bench Press Record in my weight class for the SonLight Power Lifting Federation. The record appeared in the April 2008 issue of Powerlifting USA.
