Archery Update:  May 26, 2009

NASP World Archery Tournament will be held October 8-11 in Orlando, Florida.  Unfortunately, the dates do not match up with Fall break (one week off).  However, those archers that shot at nationals qualified for the world tournament and can go as individuals.  For more information, check out this website

Parents:  There will be a Basic Archery Instructor course in June in Frankfort. If you are interested in becoming an assistant coach, please e-mail Rick.Carr@woodford.kyschools.us ASAP.  If there is significant interest, he will look into hosting a training at WCMS.

Commonly asked questions:

What is an individual tournament?
Individual tournaments are open to all archery students. They are not team events and they are not required. They are a great opportunity for students to get tournament experience and we will take scores from these tournaments into consideration when choosing the tournament competition teams. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from these tournaments as they are not directly connected to WCMS archery. When I get info on tournaments available for individual competition, I will put it on the archery calendar.

What about grade checks?
I am required to do a grade check prior to team competitions. If a student has 2 or more F’s, that student will not be allowed to participate in any archery tournament from that point on. I will do random grade checks in order to not be “surprised” right before a competition. I would encourage parents to use STI to keep track of their child’s grades and not allow hem to come to archery if the grades begin to suffer. This can be a great motivator if archery is important to the student.
